Before SikaNet CBS went live, two of our engineers spent a week at Adwumapa Microfinance in Kumasi. Two days at the teller counter. Three days riding along with Susu collectors on their actual routes. The offline-first mobile app that came out of that week was designed around what we saw — the routes with no network, the customers who wanted receipts, the collector who tracked 40 clients in her head. None of that would have come out of a discovery workshop.

On-prem is a design choice, not a limitation.

At Sekyedumase Health Center, patient records stay on the machine in the records room. No cloud. No external API calls. No third-party access. The IT officer on staff is the primary user we designed for — not an afterthought. Deployment day was making sure she could restart the service herself at 6am if the power went out overnight. That's the design constraint that mattered, not the architecture diagram.

The biggest risk in a pharmacy isn't theft — it's expiry.

Tap Pharmacy was tracking stock in a paper ledger. The owner's real problem wasn't shrinkage — it was medication going out of date before it sold. Once we surfaced the expiry data, the entire ordering strategy changed. The reorder alerts and 60/30/7-day expiry warnings drove the app's design, not the point-of-sale screen everyone else would have built first.
